Discover Senegal
Located at the westernmost tip of the African continent in the Atlantic Ocean, Senegal, the "Land of Teranga", is a crossroads of major maritime and air routes. Its location makes it a hub linking Africa to the rest of the world.
The country covers an area of 196,722 km² with a population of approximately 15 million. Senegal's neighbours are Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east and the Republic of Guinea and Guinea Bissau to the south. The country has a pleasant and diverse landscape ranging from the desert sahel in the north to the tropical vegetation of Casamance in the south, not forgetting wooded savannahs.
An asset that makes this country singularly endearing is its communicative and welcoming population. The hospitality of the population is legendary. The World Economic Forum has ranked Senegal as the 6th most welcoming country in the world, according to tourists. The Land of Teranga offers a safe and soothing environment, a living environment where tradition and modernity meet.
Senegal is one of the best performing economies in sub-Saharan Africa. For several years now, the economy has recorded sustained growth of over 6%. Its long history of social and political stability and its steadily improving business environment make it a safe destination for investment. In addition, the country has a large pool of young, skilled labour. It is estimated that the majority of the population is active and aged between 15 and 55. Democracy, a multi-party system, solid institutions, recognition of political and social rights, freedom of expression: Senegal is a model in West Africa.
The implementation of significant reform programmes promises to improve the competitiveness of the economy, thereby stimulating the flow of FDI into key sectors, including agriculture, industry, tourism, transport infrastructure and mining.
The government of Senegal has taken important steps to improve the country's business environment. Following the implementation of business environment reforms, it has become much easier to start and operate a business in Senegal.
